Description
A simple, refreshing summer drink made with cucumber, mint, and lime. This zero-sugar, low-calorie detox water helps keep you hydrated and cool during hot weather without the sugar crash of traditional beverages.
Ingredients
- 1 gallon (3.8 liters) cold filtered water
- 2 large English cucumbers (about 800g), sliced into thin rounds
- 1 large bunch fresh mint (about 1 cup packed leaves)
- 2 medium limes (about 120g), sliced into rounds
- Juice of 2 limes (approx. 2 tablespoons)
- Ice, for serving
Instructions
- Wash the cucumbers, mint, and limes thoroughly under cold water and pat dry.
- Slice the cucumbers into thin rounds (about 1/4 inch thick).
- Rinse the mint sprigs and rough chop if long; leave leaves on stems.
- Slice the limes into rounds (about 1/4 inch thick).
- In a large pitcher, add half of the cucumber slices, half of the mint, and half of the lime slices.
- Pour in about 2 cups of water to help ‘wake up’ the flavors, then swirl gently.
- Add the remaining cucumbers, mint, and lime slices to the pitcher.
- Squeeze the lime juice into the pitcher and add the remaining cold water.
- Stir gently with a long spoon to distribute ingredients.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight (up to 24 hours) to allow flavors to infuse.
- Serve over fresh ice, garnished with a mint sprig and cucumber slice.
Notes
Use cold water to prevent the mint from turning brown or tasting cooked. Thin slices of cucumber infuse faster and look better. Do not leave the water in the fridge for more than 24 hours as the mint can become bitter. The infused produce can be eaten after drinking the water. For extra electrolytes, replace 1 cup of water with coconut water.
