Description
These bakery-style chocolate chip cookies are thick, chewy, and have a perfect contrast of crisp edges and soft, fudgy centers. Made with just six core ingredients and a simple chilling technique, they are easy to make and consistently delicious.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups (300g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated white sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt or table salt
- 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with brown sugar and granulated white sugar using a hand or stand mixer on medium speed for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add vanilla extract and mix until just incorporated.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula until evenly distributed.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour (or up to 3 days).
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop dough into 2-tablespoon balls and place them 2 inches apart on the sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers still look slightly underbaked and soft.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chilling the dough is crucial to prevent spreading and enhance flavor. Do not overbake; cookies continue to cook on the hot pan. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For softer cookies, add a slice of bread to the container.
