Bakery-Style Chocolate Chip Cookies Thick Chewy

  • Author: Emma
  • Total Time: 1 hour 27 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Description

These bakery-style chocolate chip cookies are thick, chewy, and have a perfect contrast of crisp edges and soft, fudgy centers. Made with just six core ingredients and a simple chilling technique, they are easy to make and consistently delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups (300g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt or table salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with brown sugar and granulated white sugar using a hand or stand mixer on medium speed for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add vanilla extract and mix until just incorporated.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula until evenly distributed.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour (or up to 3 days).
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop dough into 2-tablespoon balls and place them 2 inches apart on the sheets.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers still look slightly underbaked and soft.
  10. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chilling the dough is crucial to prevent spreading and enhance flavor. Do not overbake; cookies continue to cook on the hot pan. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. For softer cookies, add a slice of bread to the container.
